Exporting your data

Ask for an archive of your account data from your Profile. What it contains, how long the link works and why what is encrypted stays encrypted.

Updated:

How to ask for the archive

In the app: Profile → ⬇ Download my data. The archive is prepared in the background; you get a notification when it is ready. The download link works for 72 hours.

What it contains

  • your profile and settings;
  • your friends;
  • chat metadata (with whom, when, the pulse);
  • the messages you sent and their files, while they still exist;
  • your Moments;
  • the daily pulse history of your friendships.

It is a JSON archive, machine readable, made so you can take your data anywhere.

A note about encrypted messages

Text messages, photos, clips, voice messages and files are end-to-end encrypted, and we do not have the key. In the archive they appear the way we hold them: encrypted, and marked as such. Their files are the ciphertext we hold, not photos or sounds you can open directly. Everything we hold in clear appears in clear.

Before you delete your account

Deleting your account also deletes any prepared archive. Ask for the archive, download it, then delete the account.
